Asuquo, was arraigned on charges of rape, sexual harassment and assault, on Wednesday.
Testifying against the 36-year-old, the prosecutor, Inspector Nurudeen Thomas, informed the court that Asuquo committed the offence between March, 2013 and June, 2017 at his residence at Saint Saviour Street, Sura, Lagos Island.
Thomas told the court that the 15-year-old victim had been residing with the accused, who is of the same mother since she was brought to Lagos from the village at the age of five.
According to Thomas, “The accused had been sexually assaulting the girl on different occasions whenever his wife was not around, raping her and having anal sex with her.
“When the girl started reaching adolescent she started fighting back; since then the accused would beat her to a pulp for any slight mistake.
“On June 11, when he tried raping her again, the 15-year-old grabbed his scrotum.
“While he was writhing in pain, she had the opportunity to run to the nearest police station to report.”
The prosecutor noted that the offences against Asuquo contravened Sections 263 and 264 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, Revised.
When the charges were read, he pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum.
Ayeye adjourned the case till July 5 for mention.
